Initial/Quarterly Treatment of your Hot Tub Water
It is important to measure the water balance correctly to avoid scaling
In order to balance the waters alkalinity and pH levels, the following steps must be taken. The pH level needs to be between 7.0 – 7.8 with the ideal being 7.2 and the alkalinity 80-150 ppm (parts per million)
Step 1 – Check Alkalinity Level
Less Than 80 ppm | 80-120ppm | More Than 120 ppm |
---|---|---|
Add Alkalinity + (Increaser) | Ideal Reading | Add pH – (Decreaser) |
Step 2 – Check pH Level once alkalinity level is set.
Less Than 7.0 ppm | 80-120ppm | More Than 120 ppm |
---|---|---|
Add pH+ (Increaser) | Ideal Reading | Add pH – (Decreaser) |
When the water is “balanced” the reading will ensure chlorine levels will be accurate. If the chlorine level is too low, it can be adjusted with the addition of chlorine granules at the rate of 2 grams per 1000 litres of water to raise it by 1 ppm. This can be added directly into the hot tub water with the jets turned on (not the air blower).
If you are using bromine granules, ensure to double the quantities i.e. 4 grams per 1000 litres of water.
As our bodies are naturally alkaline, the tendency is for the hot tub to become more alkaline.
This will need controlled by adding pH- from time to time, in small quantities, to keep it in check.
This information is only an outline of the main salient points for maintaining your hot tub water.
